This album is better than the last by far. For me, Heidrun is the winner, for its heavy metal folk perfection, followed barely by The Great Heathen Army, or maybe Oden Owns You All, which are super heavy. Even if some of the tracks- "The Serpent's trail" and "Saxons & Vikings" for example- stray too far for me and just sound unappealing. If you like symphonic metal and clean high power metal vocals you might love those tracks though. Just not for me.

Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10
